My Training Experience
Fitness Coach
May, 2005
I gained a Certificate in Exercise Prescription from the New Zealand Institute of Sport in 2005, during which time I was rowing for a senior men’s crew. As the year progressed, I began to further develop my coaching skills by taking on a club women’s crew. I became the fitness coach which involved setting mid to long distance endurance sessions, speed work, sprints and race planning. My focus was not only water based fitness training, but also cross training on land. This combined running, weight training and a cardio and strength based high intensity sessions.
I am proud to say that my crew reached the finals of their races at the National Championships after a very productive season – which was a great achievement for a small local club.
Sports Podiatrist
December, 2009
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Podiatry in 2009 and have since worked primarily in the sports medicine field. During my undergraduate degree, I worked in technical running footwear, where I was performing gait analysis and discussing running training with clients. This is when I really began to develop a passion for running and running training.
With my work as a Sports Podiatrist, I have worked with athletes of all ages and abilities. I have attended multiple professional development courses that specialize in running injuries and running technique. I have worked with runners who are injured and rehabilitated them and returned back to running pain-free, as well as runners who are looking to improve their performance, increase their speed or achieve a new PB or a specific goal.
I thoroughly enjoy working with runners and seeing them achieve what they have set out to achieve.
